How to Get from Athens Airport to Piraeus Port (Gate E8)

​

Gate E8 at the Port of Piraeus serves ferries to Aegina and nearby islands. Here's how to reach it from Athens International Airport:

By Taxi

  • Duration: 45–60 minutes (depending on traffic)

  • Cost: Approx. €40–€50 (flat rate during the day; higher at night)

  • Instructions:

    1. Taxis are available 24 hours a day at the airport’s arrivals level.

    2. Ask the driver to drop you at Piraeus Port, Gate E8 (Aegina ferries).

    3. Make sure the taxi uses the flat airport rate and confirms the destination before departure.

 

By Bus (X96 Express Line)

  • Duration: Around 60–90 minutes

  • Cost: €5.50 per person

  • Instructions:

    1. Find the X96 bus stop just outside the arrivals exit (between Exits 4 and 5).

    2. Buses run 24/7, every 20–30 minutes.

    3. Buy a ticket at the kiosk or onboard and validate it.

    4. Get off at the Piraeus Port (Karaiskaki Square) stop.

    5. Walk approx. 5–10 minutes to Gate E8 (follow port signage or ask for Aegina ferries).

 

By Metro (Line 3 + Line 1)

  • Duration: Around 60–75 minutes

  • Cost: €9 per person (airport ticket)

  • Instructions:

    1. Take Metro Line 3 (Blue Line) from Athens Airport toward Dimotiko Theatro.

    2. Change at Monastiraki Station to Line 1 (Green Line) toward Piraeus.

    3. Exit at the last stop: Piraeus Station.

    4. Alternatively, you can skip steps 2 and 3 and exit Dimotiko Theatro station. 

    5. From there, walk approximately. 10 minutes to Gate E8 (look for Aegina ferry signs or ask port staff).

 

Tips

  • Gate E8 is clearly signposted at the port and usually serves ferries to Aegina and other nearby Saronic Gulf islands.

Visiting Aegina from Athens is easy and scenic. Here's how to reach both Aegina Town Port and Agia Marina Port, depending on your destination.

 

From Piraeus Port to Aegina Port (Main Town)

​

Aegina Port is the island’s main port and offers the most frequent ferry connections.

  • Departure Port: Piraeus Gate E8 (dedicated to Aegina ferries)

  • Ferry Companies: Saronic Ferries, Aegean Flying Dolphins, Anes Ferries, Hellenic Seaways

  • Types of Boats:

    • Conventional ferries (vehicle & passenger): ~1 hr 10 min

    • Flying Dolphins (hydrofoils, passengers only): ~40 min

  • Tickets:

    • Conventional ferry: ~€10–12

    • Flying Dolphin: ~€15–17

  • Frequency: Multiple daily departures year-round

Arrival: Aegina Port (in Aegina Town)

From Aegina Port to Agia Marina (and the hotel)

  • Distance: ~12 km / 20–25 minutes by taxi or bus

  • Options:

    • Taxi: Available at Aegina port (costs around €20)

    • Local Bus: Operates seasonally or a few times daily (ask at the port kiosk for the current schedule)

    • Car/scooter rental: Also available at the port if you want flexibility​

 

From Piraeus Port to Agia Marina Port (direct ferry)

  • Availability: Mostly during the summer season

  • Duration: 45'~1 hr  by speedboat

  • Tickets: ~€12–14

  • Frequency: Check online in advance or with the ferry company for the most up-to-date schedules.

 Arrival: Agia Marina Port (northeast Aegina)

Upon your arrival at the port of Agia Marina, please follow the path shown in the picture below. It is 5-7' on foot. It is not shown on Google Maps as a possible route.
